Quick Wins
Five things you can try in your first hour.
You just signed up. You're not sure where to start. Here are five things you can do in your first hour that will make the platform feel real — none of them cost you anything, and you can't break a thing.
Why this page exists. Most new tools throw a blank canvas at you. We'd rather you have small, satisfying wins before you commit to the bigger setup. Do these in order, and by the end you'll have a working Finn calling your own phone.
1. Hear a Finn talk to you (3 minutes)
Go to Create New Finn in the left sidebar. Click Browse Templates at the top of the wizard. Pick any template — Friendly Receptionist is a good starter. Click Use this template.
You'll land on the edit screen with everything pre-filled. Don't change anything yet.
Click the Test on Call button (top right). Enter your own phone number. Within 10 seconds, your phone will ring. Pick up.
That's a Finn. Talk to it like you'd talk to anyone.
Don't worry about cost. Test calls are free. They don't count against your trial credit.
2. Change one thing and feel the difference (5 minutes)
Back in the edit screen, find the Identity field. Right now it says something generic. Replace it with something specific to you:
You are Sam, a friendly receptionist at [Your Business Name]. You help callers book appointments, answer basic questions, and route urgent calls to a human.
Save. Click Test on Call again. Pick up.
Notice how the personality shifted. That's how Finns work — small changes to the Identity and Style fields completely change the feel of the conversation. You'll iterate here a lot.
3. Upload one document so it can answer real questions (5 minutes)
Click the Knowledge Base tab in the edit screen. Click Upload File.
Drop in any document about your business — your menu, your pricing sheet, your FAQ, your service list. Anything. A PDF, a Word doc, a plain text file. One file is fine.
Wait 10-30 seconds for indexing (you'll see a progress indicator).
Click Test on Call. This time, when the Finn picks up, ask it a specific question that's answered in the document you just uploaded. "What are your hours?" "How much is a haircut?" "Do you offer gluten-free options?"
It'll answer using your document.
That's the whole magic. You now have an AI agent that knows your business specifics.
4. Define one thing to track per call (5 minutes)
Click the Post-Call Analysis tab. Click Add Field.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Field name | caller_interested |
| Question to AI | Did the caller seem interested in booking? |
| Answer type | Yes / No |
Save.
Now whenever this Finn finishes a call, the platform reads the transcript and fills in this field. You'll see it in your analytics — "7 of 12 callers were interested today" — instead of having to listen to every recording.
You can add as many fields as you want. Each one is a question the AI answers based on the call. This is how you measure whether your campaigns are working.
5. Look at the analytics for the calls you just made (2 minutes)
Click Analytics in the left sidebar. You'll see every test call you made today, with:
- The transcript (click any call to read or listen).
- How long the call lasted.
- The post-call analysis fields you defined (filled in for the calls made after you added them).
Click any call to open the side panel. You can play the audio back, jump to specific moments by clicking the transcript, and see exactly how the Finn handled the conversation.
This is the same view you'll use to debug real campaigns. Get familiar with it now.
What you just learned
You now understand the full loop:
- Build a Finn (Identity + Style + Welcome message).
- Feed it knowledge (upload files).
- Measure what matters (post-call analysis fields).
- Review what happened (analytics).
Everything else in these docs is variation on this theme. When you're ready for the real thing — calling actual customers, not yourself — head to the Getting Started walkthrough.
If something went wrong
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Test call never came through | Phone number format. Include country code (e.g. +1 555…). |
| Finn sounded robotic | Check the Voice field. Try a different voice from the library. |
| Knowledge base didn't answer the question | Document might be too long or off-topic. Try a more focused file. |
| Field didn't get filled in | Post-call analysis only runs on calls made after you saved the field. Make a new test call. |
